Editorial standards
BuildAnArmy guides are written to help you choose and build a military model with confidence. This page explains who writes them, how we research them and how we keep them accurate and independent.
Who writes our guides
Our guides are written by the team behind Statewide USA, a YouTube channel about military history: the tanks, aircraft, ships and weapons that shaped the twentieth century. The research that goes into our videos is the starting point for our guides.
How we research
- History: we rely on widely documented facts from published histories, museum collections and manufacturer records. When sources disagree on a figure, we use the commonly accepted one or leave the number out.
- Kits: we identify each kit by its manufacturer, kit number, scale and the exact version it depicts, so you know what you are buying. Where a feature depends on the specific box, we tell you to check the listing photos rather than guess.
- Modeling advice: techniques reflect standard, long-established practice in the scale modeling community, explained for people who are new to it.
What we do not do
- We do not invent hands-on tests, star ratings or user reviews.
- We do not show prices, because they change too often to be accurate. Amazon shows the current price.
- Brands cannot pay for placement, and no product is included because of the commission it pays.
How we pick products
Recommended products are chosen for the subject they depict, their accuracy, how approachable they are for the intended builder, and their reputation with buyers. Catalog ranking uses recent buyer demand, review volume and ratings. Read more in how we choose products.
Updates and corrections
We review guides when kits are discontinued or new ones appear, and each guide shows the month it was last updated. If you spot an error in a date, a version or a kit description, please tell us. We correct mistakes promptly.
