About BuildAnArmy
BuildAnArmy is a catalog and buying guide for people who love military history and want to build it, display it or drive it. It is run by the team behind Statewide USA, a YouTube channel about military history, aircraft, tanks and the machines behind them.
Why we made it
Every video we publish brings the same questions from viewers: "Is there a model of this?", "Which kit should I buy?", "Do I need glue?" Amazon has thousands of military models, but searching it is frustrating. The same kit appears under different names, block sets and plastic kits are mixed together, and nothing tells you whether a kit needs glue and paint. We built BuildAnArmy to fix that.
- Every product is sorted by category (tanks, aircraft, warships, weapons, vehicles, RC, figures, dioramas, tools).
- Every product is labeled by type, so you know if it is a plastic kit that needs glue and paint, a no-glue block set, a die-cast kit, a puzzle or a ready-to-run RC model.
- Each item shows its scale, country and era, and you can filter by all of them.
- Our guides explain the hobby in plain language and recommend specific models for specific needs.
What our guides cover
A good model starts with knowing the real machine. Because our channel covers military history, our guides do more than list products. They explain:
- The history and the versions. How a Tiger I built in 1942 differs from one built in 1944, why a Sherman can have three different guns, or how to tell a Spitfire Mk I from a Mk IX, and which kit depicts which version.
- The modeling side. Which scale suits which builder, what a kit will ask of you, and the paint schemes and markings that fit the period.
- Technique. Step-by-step help with building, painting, decals, weathering and dioramas.
- Buying decisions. Plastic kit, block set, die-cast or RC: what each involves and who it suits.

How we choose products
We do not list everything Amazon sells. We look for models of real military subjects from established brands and well-reviewed newer ones, and we leave out spare parts, duplicates and listings with poor ratings. To decide what appears first ("Best sellers"), we combine:
- how many people bought the item recently,
- how many reviews it has collected for how long it has been on sale,
- its average rating, adjusted so a handful of 5-star reviews does not outrank thousands of 4.7-star ones,
- whether it is in stock.
Brands cannot pay to be listed or ranked higher. Our recommendations in the guides are based on each kit's reputation in the modeling community, its subject, its difficulty and buyer feedback. We update the catalog regularly as kits come and go.
